Education
SAIR promotes literacy in immigrant and refugee communities by emphasizing the value and importance of education and fostering a love of learning. We support existing programs and create new opportunities to further the education of both youth and adults.
Our Recent Projects:
Trailblazers Trek Color Walkathon, April 2024
With sponsors from 11 local business and the Youth Service America Hershey’s Heartwarming grant, our inaugural walkathon raised over $6,000 for an educational scholarship for a first-generation college student. Our youth board of seven students from five local area high schools worked in partnership with Heartfelt Tidbits, a local area immigrant and refugee support organization, to bring together over 100 student volunteers, walkers, immigrant and refugee families and supporters for our event. Our second annual walkathon will be held in Spring 2025!
Imagination Library Sign-Ups
To promote literacy we have worked to sign up non-English speaking families for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program, an early childhood book gifting program that mails high quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth until age five. We partner with local organizations and churches to reach children and families who would benefit from participating in this terrific program.
